The Streets is Talking

In the past we have received many criticisms but have never published any on our site.  From now on, we will do just that.

In response to the Hartford Courant article [Life Section, March 29th "Be A 'Playa' And Score Street Cred; Card Game Tries To Deal With Hip-Hop's Allure] , written by John Jurgensen, we have our first hater.  You can read John's article here. http://www.southflorida.com/news/hc-cards.artmar29,0,4322958.story?coll=sfe-news-headlines  The following is the hater's response.

Game Winners Are Life Losers
I was dismayed by what I read about the game "Playas & Haters".  The way to win, according to the makers, is to beef up your "street cred".  You gain points by acting like a thug and lose points by receiving a diploma or reading a book.

Scammers have made a living off impressionable youths by marketing the idea that ignorance equals being cool.  An intelligent person is treated like a pariah.  I live by the credo "Knowledge is power" The more you know, the better you are at choosing your life's course.

Our culture needs to send message to today's young people.  They need to know it's not all about the "bling bling".  Entrepreneurs should be stopped from promoting the thug lifestyle as something to be revered.  Intelligence is what should be embraced and championed.  It should not be equated with being out of step with the popular crowd.  Those who hold this opinion are usually the ones at the front of the unemployment line.

My response...

Buddy, you're missing the whole point of Playas & Haters.  We're making fun of the whole 'thug' and urban lifestyle.  Playas & Haters is a goof on the whole thing.  Have you seen the movie, "Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In Da Hood", written by the Wayans Brothers?  That movie was a spoof of the following gangster movies: Menace to Society, South Central, Juice, Boyz n Da Hood and Dead Presidents.  Are you actually telling me that you don't laugh when you see the artwork in Playas & Haters?  Come on, Matt, keep it real.

Here is what I think about your letter.  Click here.
